The Powerful Benefits of Positive Affirmations

Updated: Nov 12

Introduction

Every thought and everything we say could be described as an affirmation, carrying either positive or negative energy.

A positive affirmation carries more love, self acceptance, self approval, optimism, authenticity and hope. We think, speak, feel, move and channel our energy in a positive direction. Our vibration is higher, we feel good and other people feel good around us too.

Listening to positive affirmations is one way to generate this mindset, build up our self-esteem and reduce the presence of negative affirmations deep within our subconscious.

Positive Affirmations and our Belief System

Our beliefs are created throughout our early experiences. Did we view the world as safe and wonderful or does the world scare us? Are we perfect as we are or are we always getting it wrong? Is our purpose to be happy or simply to serve others?

Do we have a picture or a sense of what our ideal life resembles or feels like, our priorities and goals? Some of us believe we can create, feel and achieve anything but many of us can relate to feelings of doubt and insecurity, striving but never feeling satisfied.

We are often unaware of our firm beliefs unless we are good at delving deep into the subconscious. However it's the subconscious which controls the outcome of everything we do, even the way we feel about what we do.

Our belief system and our subconscious has the power to block or support the manifestation of our best selves.

How Do Positive Affirmations Work?

Our energy levels rise during moments of self love and acceptance, affecting our health, life energy and the quality of our lives. Positive Affirmations tap into the subconscious and build up or affirm who we already are.

Louise Hay is probably the best known author and speaker regarding the power of positive affirmations. Her many, many videos, audios and books are widely available. You Can Heal Your Life is as groundbreaking today as it was over 40 years ago.

Negative feelings about our place in the world stem from the way we have internalised external information, usually while we were young. The conclusions we have formed are detrimental but seem so true.

A belief, formed in an instant, from the perspective of our vulnerable inner child, can cause us many, many years of pain.

Examples of negative or limiting Beliefs:

"I am not good enough"

"I can't achieve anything"

"Nothing I do matters."

"I am not lovable."

Updating Our Belief System

No matter how much effort we apply, no matter how talented we are or what changes we make, our lives will only ever reflect our current belief system. It is the director of our subconscious.

Our current belief system is likely very outdated. Our inner child did not know that we would become adults with way more choices than we once did. Our beliefs may reflect an unnecessary state of powerlessness - or we may be lucky and see ourselves as deserving, loving creatures, beautifully powerful and important.

Just like the people we are surrounded by, the activities we are involved in, the job we do and the clothes we wear, as adults we do have the power to change and improve our belief system as well.

In fact it's probably the best place to start. There are lots of resources as well as evidence to support this. Positive affirmations are one of those resources.

Positive affirmations allow us to 'upgrade' our belief system and 'optimise our settings.'

Allowing Negative Affirmations to Surface

The first step is to take an honest look at our beliefs, allow them to surface naturally from the point of view of our inner child. I was shocked by some of mine, they explained a lot. Therapy or journalling are other great ways to let the negativity out or make sense of our journey so far.

Although our belief system is usually out of our awareness, it is there and it is responsible for our day to day perceptions and experiences.

Negative thought patterns, uncomfortable feelings, fear, self doubt and stress are more likely if our belief system is unreliable or not working in our favour. Often the mind latches on to problems, wonders what we did wrong, applies even more effort or blames.

However the solution is to take a look at our foundation. We don't judge the foundation, question it or criticise it. The foundation we built got us this far and it did the job. However we can be objective and ask ourselves if anything is misaligned or unbalanced.

From 'Nothing I do makes a difference' to 'Everything I do has a positive impact.' These are two bricks in our foundation, one of them doesn't think the building will last a year and the other one is aiming for sky scraper status. We don't even have to buy the bricks, we just choose new ones from the 'positive thought store' on 'Transformational Avenue'.

Positive Affirmation audios are basically a positive thought store, where we can find the best selection of thoughts to integrate into our foundation. We don't always know we deserve the best foundation or that we can replace brittle or damaged thoughts with the finest thoughts available, but we can.

Positive affirmations teach us to exchange limiting beliefs with strong, self confident beliefs.

One of the benefits I've experienced is literally feeling more grounded. Our bodies do tell us is if the changes we are making are working or not.

Letting the Light In With Positive Affirmations and Gratitude

Some people have abundance all around them but feel so poor. Some people are so poor but feel very abundant. If we believe we will always suffer then we will, regardless of our circumstances. Positive affirmations lead to a positively wired subconscious which feels great, transforming our mental and emotional habits.

Feeling Good is a Habit we Develop using Positive Affirmations

There is no point striving to achieve something if we don't currently feel like an achiever. We need to know what success feels like BEFORE we try to create more success. It starts with the here and now, looking around and looking inside, teaching ourselves that we are already more than enough!

There is no point having our own gifts or strengths and passions if we don't have the ability to recognise them and their current worth. Recognition is key to enhancing our mental foundation.

The Power of Positive Affirmations and Raising Our Vibration

Listening to positive affirmations is a proven method of building self-esteem and raising our vibration. People who enjoy their life and embrace opportunities operate at a higher frequency. The more time we spend at a lower frequency the harder it is to achieve our goals.

Our inner beliefs, if strong ensure that negative thoughts don't upset or control us. A higher vibration and love are closely linked. Focusing on loving thoughts lifts us up, helps us look forward.

Positive Affirmations - Science and Research

The development and use of positive affirmations began during the New Thought Movement. There is now neuroscientific evidence revealing how regular use of positive affirmations alters the subconscious through neuroplasticity.

Positive Affirmations Key Benefits:

  • Challenge negative thoughts and promote a more optimistic mindset.

  • Reduce stress

  • Rewire our brain's neural pathways

  • Improved self-esteem

  • The cultivation of a more positive self-image, greater resilience in the face of life's challenges.

  • Boosting motivation and even improve physical health outcomes.

Self Care and Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations serve as a method of self-care. They lift our spirits, remind us that we are always doing our best, we do overcome challenges and we will achieve. They remind us that we are perfectly okay as we are, reassure us, comfort us and move our minds in a healthier, more loving and confident direction.

They also help us believe in our efforts, our goals and even help us become better dream builders.

Confidence and Positive Affirmations

Many of us were raised to notice what we are doing wrong or to look for ways to improve ourselves. The media portrays the idea that we are flawed, while others are perfect or more deserving of success. We may conclude that there is an exam to pass or a figure to find or a business to start before we will feel truly confident.

Building upon current FEELINGS of being lucky, valuable and loved generates more luck, value and love. The ability to generate these feelings more regularly and spontaneously is a powerful use of the mind. It also settles the nervous system and helps us relax - which is necessary for attaining anything which is good for us.

Positive Affirmations - Antidote to Negative Affirmations

The antidote to anything is repeating the opposite. So when we listen to positive affirmations, we are countering the many, many negative affirmations we have already absorbed.

Positive Affirmations are therapeutic and healthy, a celebration of who we already are and have always been.

It is always our right to radically alter the picture we have of ourselves, pretty sensible in fact. We can still hold onto anything wonderful within it.

Reclaiming The Beauty Of Our Mind - Tending to the Soil

No-one was given soil which is contaminated or useless. It's the environment which may have been wrong and maybe other people disturbed everything we were planting. We have to know that they don't have control anymore and they never did, not really.

No matter what we plant (the choices we make) if we believe we are creating a brilliant, rich, vibrant and abundant garden for ourselves then we will. We (the gardener) believe in ourselves more than all of the plants and trees combined. We can change our minds, tidy up the borders, build an orchard, allow others to rest here.......

The power always lies within the mind and body of the creator/gardener.

The world we are creating reflects the thoughts, feelings and beliefs we focus on.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO CREATE

The universe created humans as loving creators.

Humans are built to heal and transform anything, even ourselves.

Having Faith In Ourselves Through Positive Affirmations

Every individual beholds incredible gifts, strengths and traits which are unique. However all minds tend to have negative bias, a tendency to focus on problems. It is not our fault that the mind does this. We don't want to ever lose our spark but the negative bias of the mind has the power to do this.

By having faith in our inner guidance, our intuition as well as building a mindset of self love we reduce the power this negative bias has over us. Positive affirmations allow us to regain our power and our faith simultaneously.

Sometimes we can't see just how capable of healing and transformation we already are. Everything that grows in the soil knows how to turn towards the sun. Everything we are trying to become starts with focusing on the loving energy (the sun) within us right now.

What we focus on grows.

The Body and Positive Affirmations

The body has it's own, stronger form of communication and is capable of asking for what we truly need. Even our own touch is healing. Exercise and relaxation or being in nature remind us that we are not only a mind but a body full of energy and deserving of attention as well.

The mind isn't the answer to our problems but soothing the mind will fix many of our problems. A person who has the power to relax and soothe themselves in every way is very powerful - they will also experience far less stress and tension.

Sometimes we just need to hear the words we either didn't hear enough, have never heard or crave to hear and feel again.

Healing Heart Ache with Positive Affirmations

If we have unresolved problems or tension in the heart - past hurt, regret, fear, anger or unhealthy attachments then the mind will reflect this. The heart feeds the mind and the mind feeds the heart. We are capable of healing and loving ourselves - the more we remind ourselves that we must pay attention to ourselves the stronger we become.

There are many positive affirmation audios on the subject or love.

Forgiveness, Letting go of Blame and Positive Affirmations

Letting go of self blame and forgiving others comes more easily while we spend time loving ourselves, fully. The more we commit to ourselves, unconditionally and indefinitely the easier it is to let our mistakes and other people's mistakes go.

Many of the positive affirmation audios I've listened to are quite clever about how they balance self love, loving others with things like forgiveness.

We were not put on this earth to suffer.

Our subconscious does want love and positive energy circulating. Even if we have lost almost all belief in ourselves, positive affirmations will be slowly absorbed by the subconscious, as easily as we accept a hot cup of tea or a cold beer.

We are exactly where we should be, going exactly where we need to go.

Examples of Positive Affirmations

These example affirmations will either ring true to you or they may create friction?

Being aware of where the tension is allows us to start unraveling. Many tracks last for up to an hour and I'd definitely describe it as a form of therapy.

I love and accept myself exactly as I am now.

I love everything about myself, I am perfect, whole and complete.

I love and approve of myself. I love my body. I love who I am. I love my life.

I let go of the past, I live my life in and from the present moment.

I joyously forgive others and myself. I set myself free from the past, I am at peace.

My body restores itself now to a natural state of health.

I respect and always take good care of my body.

I can, I am able and I will.

I trust the process of life.

I am good enough just as I am.

Spotify and Youtube offer so many choices, they will cover any aspect of life or an overall self esteem and motivation boost. There's the usual spa music and you can find male or female voices that resonate with you most.

It might seem simple, repetitive and easy but complexity does not always lead to joy, love and success. I love positive affirmations and also believe in them very much! ✨
